Alan Miknis’ current work is a collection of portraits and group compositions that focus on the merging of cultures predominantly consisting of his southern childhood and west coast adulthood. Growing up in South Georgia and living in San Francisco, both cultures and social climates influence his work in a way of celebrating the weird and untamed of his human experience. The “Reenactment” series explores United States history and presents it in a way that you would find at a modern day reenactment event. Authentic elements of the histories are sometimes compromised (period dress, locations, set design, accuracy of information of event) as you can find at civil war reenactments around the United States. The players in these compositions push the “Middle Americana” series through time and place.

Alan Miknis lives and works in San Francisco’s Mission District. He is currently working on “Middle Americana – Reenactments”, a series of gouache paintings depicting U.S. historical events reenacted. His “Middle Americana” solo show was at Ampersand International Arts in 2015 and he has exhibited in group shows in Detroit, San Francisco, and throughout the state of Georgia. Miknis grew up in rural Georgia and has a BFA in painting from Georgia Southwestern State University.
